I added data to box 20 on my T5008s and set the toggle to Capital Gains but line 127 doesn't reflect the capital loss they contain.

The most common reason why you may not be seeing anything there is:

  • You may be looking at the "NON-Capital Loss" page. To get to the Net Capital Loss page, you will need to click Continue twice after clicking on Request for Loss CarryBacks.

Thanks very much! The design of this page could be improved, either by adding the various loss categories to the drop-down menu on the left or by adding a sentence explaining that the other choices will appear after clicking continue.

You won't see any "Capital Losses" on Line 127 of the tax return, (Line 127 is for Capital Gains). Actually, Capital Losses do not show up on your current year tax return at all.

If you incur a Capital Loss in the year, you will have the option to Carry Back the loss to any of the previous three years if you had a Capital Gain to apply them against. To do so, go to: Deductions > Losses Profile > Request for Loss Carrybacks. You can see the amount of the Net Capital Loss incurred here, and choose to apply it.

Otherwise, your Net Capital Loss will automatically be carried forward for you, and show on your Notice of Assessment when you receive it.

On the Request for Loss Carrybacks page, it says the amount available to carry back is zero.
