I forgot the claim moving expenses in 2017, can I claim it in 2018 or need to claim in 2017? And I didn't buy a new house instead I rented a place, can I claim rent fee?

  • If you incurred Moving Expenses in 2017, you must report them on your 2017 tax return. If you neglected to do so, you'll have to make an "adjustment" to the 2017 return, and apply any expenses to your Net Income earned at the new location. If your expenses exceeded your income, then you can carry them forward to your 2018 return.
    • If you are signed up for CRA's My Account service, you can do your adjustment online and it may be processed soon enough for you to carry forward any amounts to 2018 and apply them.
  • You cannot claim any rent expenses.
