I live in the Northwest Territories. Where do I enter my claim when I rent an apartment?

The North West Territories do not offer a provincial credit for rent payments. They do offer a Cost of Living credit at Line 479 of the tax return. Review the Provincial tax summary.

Living in a Northern Prescribed Zone may entitle you to a claim for Northern Living Allowance. You can find this under the "Deductions" tab > "Other Deductions" > Northern Residence Deduction. This amount will be claimed at Line 255 of the federal tax form.

You can find a detailed summary of your tax return under the "Review" tab > "Bottom Line (tax summaries)"> then look for the paper and magnifying icon in the lower left hand corner, select "Detailed Tax Summary". You will have a line by line sample of the Federal Tax Return.
