This error usually occurs because a checkbox was accidentally selected in the "Rental Profile" or a "0" was entered into a field that should have been left blank. Try these steps below:
Go to the Rental Summary page in TurboTax.
Click Edit next to your rental property.
Look for a checkbox that says something like "I have short-term rental income" or "Rental expenses/CCA for non-compliant short-term rental properties."
Uncheck this box. If it is already unchecked, check it and then uncheck it again to "reset" the form logic.
Even if the box is not checked, a stray value in the data fields can result in a "hard stop" error.
Navigate through the Rental Income and Rental Expenses pages.
Look for a column or field called "Short-term portion" or "Non-compliant days."
Delete any zeroes. In TurboTax, "0" is frequently treated as a "value entered." Blank is preferable. Ensure that these fields are completely empty.
The specific error you are seeing is usually tied to the T776 - Chart B (Non-compliant CCA).
Go to the CCA or Depreciable Assets section of your rental.
If you see a screen asking for "Non-compliant short-term rental days" or "Short-term portion of CCA," leave them completely blank.
If you are using the Desktop (CD/Download) version, switch to Forms Mode, find Form T776, and look for Chart A or B. Right-click and "Remove" or "Clear" those specific charts if they are visible.
