As per the Canada Revenue Agency, you may be eligible for either of the component of OEPTC: an energy component and a property component, if the following conditions apply:

For Energy Component, you may be eligible for 2021, if:

  • you were a resident of Ontario on December 31, 2020, and- Before June 1, 2022. You will be 18 years of age or older.- You had a spouse or common-law-partner on or before December 31, 2020, or- You are a parent who lives or lived with your child and
  • for 2020, at least one of the condition applies to you as seen in the CRA link
  • You may be eligible for the property tax component for 2021 if:

           - you were a resident of Ontario on December 31, 2020, and

           - Before June 1, 2022. You will be 18 years of age or older.

           - You had a spouse or common-law-partner on or before December 31, 2020, or

           - You are a parent who lives or lived with your child and

  • for 2020, at least one of the condition applies to you as seen in the CRA link

If you are using TurboTax Free, click on the heading shown as Provincial and click Get Started, and click on Continue and answer Yes to the question "Did any of these apply to you and you want to apply for the OEPTC?” > Continue> Now you'll be able to enter the details of your rent paid.

To get this benefit you need to fill out the form ON-BEN Application.
