If I rented an apart. from Jan-Oct, but technically bought my 1st home and closed in Sept. (of the same year). Can I claim rent paid as well as property taxes paid?

Yes, you are able to claim both your rent paid and the property taxes paid. Just be sure to enter both addresses.
