My (stock) capital gains are not showing up in the income summary. In 2016 I had capital gain, in 2017 a capital loss to offset, neither show up in the income summary?

If you are carrying back a Capital Loss incurred on your 2017 tax return to 2016, you will see no entries on the current year tax return. Only if you were applying a Capital Loss carried forward to a current year Capital Gain would you see anything on this year's tax return.
