Mother-in-law's long term care rent

My wife paid the rent for my mother-in-law's long term care, how can I claim this rental payment?

Can I put it in line 33199 of my return?

Thanks!

Mother-in-law's long term care rent

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

Yes, you can claim 100% of that expense under medical expenses which is line 33199.  All regular fees paid for full-time care in a nursing home or for specialized care or training in an institution are eligible as medical expenses.

To claim these expenses you need to include a detailed statement of the nursing home costs:

  1. In the upper-right corner of your screen, select Find.
  2. In the Find window, type Medical.
  3. Select Medical Expenses Profile from the list, and select Go.
