My son is attending a Hockey Academy away from home - still in High School. We pay $1900 to the hockey academy and $600 to a billet family. Can we use this? Deductions?

You can claim the $600 as a child care expense if the child was under 16 and their net income in 2018 was $11,809 or less. You can’t claim the fee for the hockey academy if the child was under 16.

If the child is over 16, you can’t claim the billet family cost, but you might be able to claim the hockey academy fee if it is considered eligible tuition. You can get info on what the CRA considers as eligible tuition here: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/individuals/topics/about-your-tax-return/tax-re...
