Self-employed return. Question re: property taxes. Mine are deferred until selling the property. Can I still claim them each year?

Or, do I only claim them when I sell? I live in BC.

Hi, thank you so much for your question. I understand that you would like to know whether you can claim the deferred taxes on your BC property, as part of BC's property tax deferral program. Given that the property taxes are deferred and not actually incurred until you sell the property, you would claim them all the year that you pay them. As such, you would not be able to make any claims in the years prior to that year that you pay them. See here for more info on tax treatment of 'deferred charges'...

Hope that helps!
