I am a Canadian living in the US on a J1 visa. All 2015 income was in the US, and I paid US taxes. Turbotax yields zero federal foreign tax credit. Is this correct?

I have entered foreign tax paid in the US. In the review section, it shows a (small) provincial foreign tax credit and zero federal tax credit. Should I not receive a federal foreign tax credit?

Thank you for reaching out.

You DO NOT need to file taxes in Canada if the Canada Revenue Agency considers you a non-resident, and if you are not receiving any income from Canadian sources.

You can check your residency status here - http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/nnrsdnts/ndvdls/nnrs-eng.html#rsdncstts

More details about similar situation is mentioned in detail here - https://turbotax.intuit.ca/tax-resources/tax-tips/retirement-tips/canadians-living-in-us-file-income...
