As common-law partner. How much should I claim for my rent expenses?

I heard that under common-law, only one of us can claim for rent expenses. Me and my boyfriend we split the rent. Should I fill out two Ontario Trillium Benefit forms under both me and boyfriend's name and split the rent by two? Or I just need to fill out one form with total rent payment under my name? Thank you

The same thing can't be claimed twice. So if you are common- law - then they take into consideration the total Net income in the household to determine both your GST and trillium benefits. Therefore You will only claim rent once under either of you or you can both claim half the rent.

If you are filing your return together as a joint return then you can choose anyone of you to claim the rent amount.

If you are filing separate returns then you will both claim half the rent.
