How do I prepare a spousal or coupled return in TurboTax Online?
In the online versions of TurboTax, you can prepare your spouse or common-law partner's tax return at the same time as yours. This is called a coupled return. If you’ve started your return without indicating you’ll prepare them together, you'll need to start over. Indicate that you want to prepare your spouse/partner’s return together with yours.
Preparing a spousal/coupled return
Sign in to your TurboTax account.
Select Start a new return.
Follow the process until you arrive at the Who are you preparing this return for? screen, select My spouse/partner and me, and select Continue.
Follow the prompts to enter your personal information.
On the What's your marital status on December 31? screen, select Married or Living Common-law as applicable, answer the question about the year, and select Continue.
Proceed with completing your returns.
