My residency status changed. Where in TurboTax do I put the date I became/ceased to be a Canadian resident?

When your residency status changes, it also changes the way your taxes are calculated. TurboTax gives you an opportunity to indicate when your status changed soon after you start your tax return.

In the online edition of TurboTax:

  1. Select Find at the top-right of your screen and type "province" into the search field.
  2. Select "Province or Territory of Residence" from the search results and then select Go.
  3. On the "Where did you live at end of the year" step, select Continue.
  4. On the "Did your Canadian residency change" step, answer Yes.
  5. Follow the onscreen instructions and enter the date that applies to you.

In the CD/download edition of TurboTax:

  1. Select Find at the top-right of your screen and type "residency" into the search field.
  2. Select either of the "Canadian residency" options from the search results and then select Go.
  3. On the Information step, scroll to the bottom and answer Yes to the question "Did your Canadian residency change?"
  4. Follow the onscreen instructions and enter the date that applies to you.
