Senior assistance tax credit (Quebec)

My Father in-law died 2024.

TurboTax is claiming the $4000 senior assistance tax credit (Quebec) for  Him and I assume my Mother in-law. His marital status remains married.

TurboTax is claiming $2000 senior assistance tax credit (Quebec) for my Mother in-law.

Her marital status is widowed.

TurboTax said the taxes had to be completed separately.

Both over seventy.

How to correct this?

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your father-in-law.

Are you using TurboTax Desktop or TurboTax Online?

You can choose to say that the spouse will claim $2000 and it works; Here are the screenshots:

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

Yes that worked thank you. It has to be done in the form method. I do not think it is the best way as it should be an option in the easy step method.

I had posted about this tax credit as well.  I saw it pop up for my parents but am nervous about claiming it as it is a large amount

But aside from both being citizens, they are both born here. Is the only other requirement they are both over 70?

I would just like to be sure before I file.

thanks so much

@sflan You may be entitled to the refundable senior assistance tax credit if you qualify as an eligible individual and you meet at least one of the following conditions:

  • You were 70 or over on December 31, 2024.
  • Your spouse on December 31, 2024, qualifies as an eligible individual and was 70 or over on December 31, 2024.

As they are both over 70 years old. For more information please refer to Line 463 – Senior assistance tax credit
