We’re sorry for your loss, and we understand that preparing a final tax return for a spouse/partner, family member, or friend who has passed away can be difficult. TurboTax will guide you step-by-step, just as it would if you were preparing your own tax return. TurboTax supports the preparation of T1 returns for people who have passed away. It doesn't support T3 Trust Income Tax returns. Before you begin: Returns for the deceased can't be prepared in TurboTax at the same time as that of their spouse/partner. Returns for the deceased must be prepared and filed separately Returns for the deceased are ineligible for the CRA’s NETFILE service and Revenu Québec’s NetFile Québec service. The return(s) must be printed and mailed If the deceased has interest income that was shared with someone else (such as a spouse/partner), the deceased’s portion must be manually prorated before being entered in TurboTax If the deceased received GST/HST credit payments after their date of death, this payment must be returned to the CRA If the deceased received a CPP or QPP death benefit amount, this amount must be reported on a T3 Trust Income return, not a T1 personal return In addition, we recommend familiarizing yourself with the CRA guide T4011 - Preparing Returns for Deceased Persons before you...

If you declared bankruptcy in the tax year, we do not recommend that you use TurboTax. In the year that you declared bankruptcy, you are required to create two separate returns--one for the period from January 1 to the day before you declared bankruptcy and the second for the remainder of the calendar year. You must divide the personal amount credit between the two returns according to the number of days in each period. Preparing two returns in this situation would require you to override almost all of the default and calculated amounts, and TurboTax doesn't permit the override of many of the calculations you would need to override to prepare accurate returns. In addition, when you have declared bankruptcy you are ineligible to use CRA's NETFILE service, so you must print and mail your return. You are also required to send a copy of the court issued Assignment in Bankruptcy, a Bankruptcy Notice, or correspondence entitled First Meeting of Creditors to your tax services office.

(TurboTax Business Incorporated) Incorporated Business printed return: RETAIN ON FILE. DO NOT SUBMIT TO THE CRA appears on my printed forms

This FAQ applies to the TurboTax Business Incorporated edition. These forms will have corresponding RSI forms that must be filed with your return. Any corporation using computer software to prepare its tax return is required to file the RSI forms (which are, essentially, summaries). The title on the T2 RSI return required by the CRA is "T2 Return and Schedule Information". You can't remove this message. The CRA requires this message on the bottom of all facsimile forms for which there's a corresponding RSI form. It's simply there to remind you that the CRA doesn't want to receive any facsimile forms for which an RSI form is required.

Yes, you can download TurboTax (for Windows) for current and prior years. Download the CD edition of TurboTax for the tax year you need. You need a 16-digit license code (previously known as Installation Key) to install and run your download of TurboTax.
The process of installing TurboTax on multiple computers is the same as installing it on one computer. For more information about how to install, consult these frequently asked questions about installing the TurboTax CD/download edition. Follow these instructions if you want to install TurboTax on a computer that doesn’t have a CD drive. Limitation on number of installations: You can install and activate the same copy of TurboTax on a maximum of three different computers using the same license code (formerly known as the installation key). Limitation on number of tax returns: Installing TurboTax on a second or third computer using the same license code doesn’t increase the total number of returns that you can file and print.
