Form T5018 is an information slip provided to contractors and the CRA for information purposes only. This form shows the total contract payments made by a privately-owned business to the contractor for services during the calendar year. The amount may also include payments for things such as products, expenses, or reimbursements. Since contractors have to pay tax on all income earned (and the amount indicated on a T5018 slip can sometimes represent a combination of payments), contractors also typically enter their self-employment income on Form T2125 as well, which helps in determining the amount of taxable income to report on their return. To enter self-employment income in TurboTax: Select Find and enter self-employment, then select Go The Your Self-employment Profile page will appear Follow the steps to input your self-employment details Note: Only minimal entries are required. For example, your personal name and address can be used as the business name and address, etc.

How do I change my marital status in TurboTax Online?

If you're being prevented from changing your marital status in TurboTax, it's likely due to how you've chosen to prepare your return. For example, if you initially chose to prepare your return together with a spouse/partner, TurboTax won't allow you to change your marital status to Single (as Single isn't a valid status for someone with a spouse/partner). Additionally, if you've transferred your return over from a previous year (and you had a status other than Single), TurboTax won't allow you to change your marital status back to Single. According to CRA rules, once someone has been something other than Single, they can't return to Single status again (read the CRA's Marital status page for other available options). Use the following steps to change your marital status in TurboTax Online: Select Find from the menu, enter Marital Status, and select Go On the What’s your marital status? step, change your status (and enter the date of change if it happened during the tax year), then select Continue If you're unable to change your marital status, you'll need to start a new return.
You don't submit the form T2200 Declaration of Conditions of Employment when you file your taxes.
What should I do if I have a capital loss on a T5008 slip in TurboTax Online?

On your T5008 slip, a capital loss occurs if the amount in box 20 is greater than the amount in box 21 (signaling that the cost or book value associated with the securities transaction is greater than the proceeds of disposition or settlement amount). If you enter any T5008 slip with a capital loss into TurboTax, you're given a warning when you reach the Review stage. If you're sure that you've entered your T5008 amounts correctly, you can ignore the warning. You're also given the option of going back to verify your amounts before continuing with the review. To deal with the warning related to capital loss: On the Review: Warnings screen, select Review (next to the message about the T5008) If you're sure about the accuracy of your T5008 data entries, select Ignore (and the warning process is now over) If you'd like to review or amend amounts on your T5008, select Applies to me. You'll be returned to the T5008 - Summary screen For each T5008 slip you've entered, TurboTax displays an amount for box 21. You're given the option to edit any of those amounts by selecting Edit. The T5008 - Securities Transactions screen appears Once you've verified the amounts and made changes (if necessary), select Done With T5008, then Done With T5008 Slips.
I have two slips of the same type. How do I add them?

When you have slips of the same type, each slip is entered into TurboTax individually. As an example, here's how you'd enter two T4 slips: Select Find (or the magnifying glass) from the TurboTax menu. In the Find window, type T4. Select T4 Employment Income and Go. Select Add T4. Enter the amounts from your first T4 in the applicable boxes. Find and select Save and Add Another T4. In the empty T4 slip that opens, enter the amounts from your second T4. Find and select Save and Continue. It's common to have multiples of other types, such as T5 slips and RRSP contribution statements. The process for entering these is just like entering multiple T4 slips. *If you don't see the Find button, you may not have completed the Setting Up/Introduction section of your return. Continue through the Setting Up section until the Find button appears. Related information: How do I quickly jump to different sections of my tax return in TurboTax Online?
How do I enter a Relevé 27 (RL-27) in TurboTax?

In most cases, a Relevé 27 is issued for information purposes only; You don't enter it your tax return. There are a couple of exceptions: If you're the owner of a taxi permit and received a Relevé 27 for compensation for the permit's loss of value, you enter info from your RL-27 in the self-employment section of TurboTax, to reduce the capital cost of the license and the undepreciated capital cost of the depreciation category of the permit. Note: It can also lead to recovery amortization at the end of the year in which you received compensation if it exceeds the PNACC of the category. If you received a payment related to self-employment, you must decrease the amount of the related expense or reduce the capital cost of the property that was financed and enter it as other income in the self-employment section of TurboTax. To jump to the self-employment section of TurboTax: In the upper-right corner of your screen, select Find*. In the Find window, type Self-employment and select Go.
