Turbo tax desktop

Hello TurboTax Support Team,

I am writing to provide feedback on my experience with the TurboTax Desktop version purchased through Costco this year.

To be candid, the desktop product feels significantly outdated compared to the online version. The user interface resembles software from the 1990s, and the help articles and guidance within the application were not sufficient for resolving many of my questions. I ultimately had to rely on external tools to find accurate answers because the in‑product help system was not effective.

Additionally, because the return I filed using the desktop version does not appear in my online TurboTax account, I now have an incomplete filing history for 2025. This creates unnecessary fragmentation and makes long‑term recordkeeping more difficult.

Given the maturity of the online platform, I strongly encourage Intuit to consider retiring the desktop version. If TurboTax continues to sell through Costco, a more customer‑friendly approach would be to provide a redemption code that allows customers to access the online version at the same discounted price.

Getting credit through Rent-Reporting

I moved to a condo this past September and rent a room from my brother. I don't have a credit score right now because I haven't used any credit cards or taken out any loans. I hope to build my credit score, and I looked up that I can do so by reporting my rental payments. It is my first time renting from anywhere. I pay my brother my rental payments through Zelle. I tried using Experian to report my rent, but it wasn't getting me anywhere. I was using Experian Boost, and it just scanned my bank and did nothing else. I tried calling customer service, but it also led to no results, as the representatives I spoke to didn't quite understand what I was asking, even after I tried to explain it a couple of times. I did look up sites I can use to report my rent, even though I use Zelle, and one site that came up was called Boom, which acts as a third party to send my reports to a credit bureau. What I want to know is if there is anything else I need to do to report my rent and, in turn, build up my credit?

Had a weird experience with CK chat support, but I received an error in submitting feedback. Tried to find any other way to give this feedback with no luck. Turbo Tax has this community, that’s about it. It will probably get nowhere, but I have to post it at this point.

Here’s what I attempted to send to CK’s support email…

I just finished a Credit Karma support chat experience… but I wasn’t able to leave feedback due to an “error” and was supposed to “contact my admin” due to the error. Except, I’m a user, not anyone who has any idea who an admin is.

I rated the overall experience 3/5 stars (because I was able to finally change my email address on my account, but not without “pulling teeth”).

I rated the agent “expert” interaction with Jose / Joseph I a 1/5 stars. Here was my written review:

Issue not resolved. I was told to open a new chat even though I have access to all my info, just entered the wrong email upon chat-start. I was told to not send inappropriate messages, when I didn’t send any. (?) I jumped through hoops to change my email. Finally got back to the original concern to be told my concern about Turbo Tax’s intrusive interfacing in spite of me already having filed my taxes via a professional “might” be escalated. Empathy lacking. Screenshots of UI concern in the Credit Karma app provided. My only hope is that TT doesn’t get MORE belligerent after April 15th, thinking I’ve still yet to file my taxes. No need for this level of invasiveness.

I didn’t WANT to spend my morning doing this… I could have just given up and shrugged. But working in software/tech myself, with products/services users interface with, and dealing heavily with the voice of the customer in my day to day job, I could not - in good conscience - keep feedback to myself anymore about my frustrating experience with Turbo Tax’s invasion of Credit Karma, with no obvious way to quiet the TT aspect - even Joseph didn’t know how to do it.

But at least he “might” but an improvement request in to higher management.

Do Multiple Hard Inquiries for Same Credit Card Application Count as One Inquiry for Credit Scoring Purposes?

This is in the United States. I applied for a credit card but unbeknownst to me the CRA(s) had placed a fraud Alert on my report after one of them was hacked and then as "compensation" they provided one of those ridiculous Identity Protection products for free and I was dumb enough to accept. The fraud alert requires any lender to contact me by phone, but CRA did not include my phone number in the alert/personal statement, so my application was set to pending status and I needed to call in to Application Processing team, who then informed me of the alert and that I needed to contact the CRAs and have the alert modified or removed to proceed, which I did. I was also told that an additional hard inquiry would be needed to re-pull my credit report/score to proceed with application, which seems wrong, but not under my control.

So main question: will two or more hard inquiries from same lender for same application be treated as a single hard inquiry for purposes of calculating credit score? Or will I end up with multiple hard inquiries which would have the effect of misleadingly dragging down my credit score for a couple of years?

How to appeal a credit report entry?

I had a pending charge of about 200$ with Verizon for not returning equipment after I closed my account with them. They never sent me a return label package. So, I called customer service multiple times and explained that I did not receive the return label, to my new address. They promised me multiple times that they were going to send it but never did even though I told them my new address repeatedly. After about 7 calls, I was promised by customer service that they wouldn't report it to the credit agencies for non-payment.

Now, they have reported it anyway and my credit score has gone down. So I decided that fighting a corporation is useless and I called them and made the payment anyway.

Who can I talk to about removing this from my credit report? I am assuming Verizon would close the account but it would still remain on my report for 7 years, right? But can I appeal this and get it removed completely?

Filing late taxes - Which TurboTax plan is best for me?

Which plan will be best to choose as an investor, beneficiary of an irrevocable trust and someone who needs to make a state filing as a non resident (for the trust)? I have several questions that I need assistance with so I know I need to choose one that offers assistance. I feel frustrated though because the plan offerings seem a little misleading - not as straight forward as I had hoped.

I already started doing the taxes using TurboTax just haven't committed to a plan, yet because I am unsure. I have Q's about filling out information for schedules k-1 and kf and also about form 8949.

I tried to call TurboTax to ask about pricing but ended up hanging up - couldn't get past the automated voice "agent". Very frustrating.

Victim of Identity Theft takes defensive actions with police reports & state professional licensing boards

I have been a victim of identity theft and have learned a lot concerning identity theft, the proper way to report identity theft & the professional license holder.

First, read all your mail or email is your first line of defense with identity theft. One day I received a postcard notification I was changing my mailing address at a bank we do not use. To make a long story short, I contacted the bank, gathered information, and assured them the transaction(s) were identity theft.

The thieves named a local postal ship & receive center as their (my) office address. I visited the postal ship & receive center to open/access my mailbox and they claimed I wasn’t in their records.

I filed a police report in the city of where the bank was located (which was the city were my fictitious business operate) and the suburb adjoining city where we live.

A year later, the state’s tax commission notified me and informed that I was delinquent with my state withholding tax reports for my fictitious business. I responded and included the police reports of the city of incident and the city of my residence. This seemed to be accepted by the tax commission.

This caused me to reflect as a CPA. If they notified the state’s tax commission, should not I also notify the state’s accounting licensing board to avoid someone illegitimately opening an accounting office in my name? Which I have done.

The staff of a consumer watchdog on the radio alerted me to filing police reports as to “put notice to the world that you are addressing the issue and informing the public at large”. While this advice seemed rather flimsy at the time, the state tax commission readily accepted it as date proof of an illegal happenstance.

1099K and 1099-NEC Income

All of my payments are received via PayPal so I get a 1099K from them; however, some of my clients also send me a 1099-NEC which is problematic as if I deduct from PayPal's 1099K the IRS thinks I'm not filing 100% of income. AND if I don't report the 1099-NECs, it's the same thing? How do I best report this without paying tax twice and inflating my overall income?

Performing Wisconsin Estimated Taxes
