Re: Does landscaping expenses qualify for any credit/deduction for someone who is over 70 years old?

Landscaping expenses generally do not qualify for federal tax credits or deductions for seniors, as they are considered routine maintenance. However, if you are 70 or older and live in Quebec, you may be eligible for a provincial tax credit for home-support services that includes lawn mowing and landscaping.

Expenses you can claim

Hope this helps!

You can only claim amounts that your employer hasn't reimbursed you for. So, if they paid you back $50, then you can only claim $20.

Please see this TurboTax Canada FAQ for more information on how to enter employment expenses: Where do I claim my employment expenses in TurboTax Online?

Re: Connecting to Etsy

To fix this, follow these steps:

If you started your return by clicking a link on Etsy, it may have "glitched" the interview flow.

Log out of both Etsy and TurboTax.

Log back into TurboTax Online directly.

Navigate to Income > Self-Employment > Tax Profile.

Look for a button or prompt that says "Import" or "Connect to a partner." In the 2025 version, Etsy and Uber integrations are often found under the "Income" summaries rather than a standalone tab.

If this doesn't work, we recommend contacting our product support team by phone.

https://turbotax.community.intuit.ca/turbotax-support/en-ca/help-article/tax-return/contact-us/L1h8P3E0x_CA_en_CA?uid=m4j5o7no

They have access to tools we don't have here in the community, like screenshare, and see the issues to escalate into an investigation if needed.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

First of all, start a new return.

If you wish to file jointly with your wife, select My Spouse/Partner and Me where it asks you for "Who are you preparing this return for?" and continue.

Once you begin your return this way, you will have to answer basic questions related to yourself and your spouse: name, DOB, etc.

After you have started your joint return with your spouse under the Investment section, you can enter or upload your T5.

In TurboTax, if a T5 is in both names, only one person will enter it, and on the bottom of the T5, it asks what percentage is for the spouse, and they would enter 50%.

If you both contributed equal amounts to the investment and you share money, you can each claim 50% of the amount shown on the T5 tax slip. Otherwise, you can claim the appropriate portion depending on how much you contributed to the investment account:

Amount to report = personal amount contributed/total amount contributed

For example:

Amanda and Phillip opened an investment account together that pays interest. Amanda contributed $1,000, and Phillip contributed $3,000.

They received a T5 slip with both names on it and an amount of $100 in Box 13.

Each will have to report a portion of this income on their tax returns:

Amanda will report: $100 x $1,000/$4,000 = $25

Phillip will report : $100 x $3,000/$4,000 = $75

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.
