You can only claim amounts that your employer hasn't reimbursed you for. So, if they paid you back $50, then you can only claim $20.

Please see this TurboTax Canada FAQ for more information on how to enter employment expenses: Where do I claim my employment expenses in TurboTax Online?

Re: Connecting to Etsy

To fix this, follow these steps:

If you started your return by clicking a link on Etsy, it may have "glitched" the interview flow.

Log out of both Etsy and TurboTax.

Log back into TurboTax Online directly.

Navigate to Income > Self-Employment > Tax Profile.

Look for a button or prompt that says "Import" or "Connect to a partner." In the 2025 version, Etsy and Uber integrations are often found under the "Income" summaries rather than a standalone tab.

If this doesn't work, we recommend contacting our product support team by phone.

https://turbotax.community.intuit.ca/turbotax-support/en-ca/help-article/tax-return/contact-us/L1h8P3E0x_CA_en_CA?uid=m4j5o7no

They have access to tools we don't have here in the community, like screenshare, and see the issues to escalate into an investigation if needed.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

Re: how to co file while sharing t5's with wife?

First of all, start a new return.

If you wish to file jointly with your wife, select My Spouse/Partner and Me where it asks you for "Who are you preparing this return for?" and continue.

Once you begin your return this way, you will have to answer basic questions related to yourself and your spouse: name, DOB, etc.

After you have started your joint return with your spouse under the Investment section, you can enter or upload your T5.

In TurboTax, if a T5 is in both names, only one person will enter it, and on the bottom of the T5, it asks what percentage is for the spouse, and they would enter 50%.

If you both contributed equal amounts to the investment and you share money, you can each claim 50% of the amount shown on the T5 tax slip. Otherwise, you can claim the appropriate portion depending on how much you contributed to the investment account:

Amount to report = personal amount contributed/total amount contributed

For example:

Amanda and Phillip opened an investment account together that pays interest. Amanda contributed $1,000, and Phillip contributed $3,000.

They received a T5 slip with both names on it and an amount of $100 in Box 13.

Each will have to report a portion of this income on their tax returns:

Amanda will report: $100 x $1,000/$4,000 = $25

Phillip will report : $100 x $3,000/$4,000 = $75

If you need more help regarding this concept, visit - T5 Tax Form: Statement of Investment Income in Canada

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

Re: after completing the transactions of T5008, where can I find the summary ?

In TurboTax Online, you won't see a "Forms" menu like the desktop version, but you can find your T5008 summary and the resulting capital gains in a few specific places.

1. The Investment Income Summary

Once you have entered your slips, you can view the collective data by following these steps:

Select Income from the left-side menu.

Click on Investments.

Select T5008 - Statement of Securities Transactions.

TurboTax will show a table listing every slip you’ve entered. This is your primary "summary" for verifying individual transactions.

2. The "Detailed Tax Summary" (To see the total)

If you want to see the final calculated amount that is being sent to the CRA:

Select "View detailed summary" from the top

Look for Line 12700 (Taxable Capital Gains). This number represents 50% of the total gain/loss calculated from your T5008 slips and other capital property.

Where do I report capital gains or losses in TurboTax Online?

Hope this helps!

You only have to enter the T5 once. If you are going to be the partner who takes care of the T5, enter the percentage that will be claimed by a spouse on your tax return. If you and your spouse are preparing tax returns together, TurboTax will automatically transfer the percentage of each partner’s claim onto both partners’ returns.

Search for T5-Slips > T5 Investment Income > Enter New T5.

Connecting to Etsy

I have an Etsy account and I used TurboTax last year to file my taxes and I was able to connect my Etsy to automatically import all my data.

This year I want to do the same, I clicked the TurboTax tab on Etsy, logged into my TT account and started filling out info, but when I got to the self-employment part it doesn’t show the option to link to my Etsy account. How do I fix this?

I selected the basic Self-Employed Do It Yourself paid option. Thanks in advance!

Re: I have a T3 from CRA and the related T3 from brokerage, but they differ, what do i do?

When T3 slips (Statement of Trust Income) from your brokerage differ from the information shown on the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) My Account, it is often due to the brokerage consolidating multiple securities into one slip, while the CRA reports them as individual slips per fund.

Before filing, compare every box on your brokerage T3 against the slip in your CRA account. If the numbers are wildly different and you cannot reconcile them, call your brokerage. They may need to issue an amended slip to the CRA.

Hope this helps!

Yes, you can file your nephew's taxes for him, but you cannot simply add his income to your own tax return. He must file a separate tax return (T1) in his own name.
