You will need to do an adjustment on your 2024 tax return. If you used TurboTax for your 2024 tax return, you will sign into your online account, and you should see ReFile beside your return.

Please note that the reason for the difference in refunds on returns is that many tax credits are calculated by household income and not only individual.

You would need to completete a return and not file it for both of you to see the difference of the outcome.

My own return showed about $2500 or $3500 back to me. When I 'combined' with wife's return, mine came back as receiving $50 and my wife owing $1500. I'd like to know if turbotax can show me the result of each of us as 'not combined', so I can evaluate this, without having to start it all from scratch.

Thank you.

Yes, you should always add any tax slips provided to you. When using TurboTax and you get to the review section- It will tell you if you are claiming the Canada Workers Benefit- you would click Applies to me then click on No- that you don't want to claim it.

You can refile by going on your CRA MY Account and click on change and choose the tax year and you will be able to change it there.

Another useless comment from you-it is obvious you do not read the question and/or know little about how Turbo Tax actual works technically and nothing about the tax act. If you have tuition fees they are usually on a T2202 form (NOT a T4), and you do not have to deduct the full amount. You can input the fees you paid per the T2202 on the schedule 11 and then decide how much to deduct - the remainder is carried forward to a future year or transferred to an eligible person.

It is apparent that one cannot access the schedule 11 in Turbo Tax BEFORE filing the return, I will look for another company to file next year as I am fed up with Turbo Tax. DO NOT REPLY TO MY RESPONSE HERE as you have nothing worthwhile to add.

COMPLETELY FEDUP!

If FHSA overcontribution is caused by cash contribution , the bank should report on box 38 ( designated withdrawl) not the box 36 "Designated Transfer" (Back to RRSP) You can only use this specific method if the "excess" money originally came from a transfer from your RRSP. The Rule: You can move the excess amount back to your RRSP using Form RC727. The Benefit: This does not use up new RRSP room (it essentially "undoes" the transfer). The Limit: You cannot transfer back more than you originally moved from the RRSP to the FHSA. (This is exactly why your tax software is giving you an error—it’s checking this limit!) 2. The "Designated Withdrawal" (Cash Out) If you contributed cash (not a transfer) and went over your $8,000 annual or $40,000 lifetime limit: You must take the money out of the FHSA as a Designated Withdrawal (also using Form RC727). If you do this correctly with the form, the withdrawal is tax-free, and it "erases" the overcontribution. Important: If you just take the money out as a regular withdrawal (Box 22), it is taxed as income, but it still solves the overcontribution for the future. Please check whether bank reported in a proper way. I found the same issue for FHSA rollover to RRSP in turbotax . Turbo tax is following the tax rule dictated by the box and form.

The HBP repayment must be made to an RRSP in your name and designated as a repayment for your own HBP account.
