Joint spouse filing with premium

I am using premier for the first time this year. I always do my husband’s and my taxes jointly and it has always been included in the standard and deluxe versions. This year when I clicked to start a joint return, it told me it would cost $80 ($40 per return) and yet their marketing indicates that it should be included. Why is it trying to charge me?

If you are preparing a joint return using the same version of TurboTax Online, you will have to pay per return for two returns ($40 per return). To check product and pricing please visit this page, it clearly indicates that price is as per return.

I am not using the online version, it was purchased from Costco. The product description clearly stated that joint filing is included, yet the program is trying to charge me.

If you look at the TurboTax box that you purchased, can you please tell me what it says? Is it TurboTax Online, or TurboTax Download Online? The reason you would be charged twice is only because you may not have activated your license code.

Am having the same issue, with Deluxe Online addition that was purchased at Costco, activated the 2024 Deluxe Online edition, online edition could not import previous joint data, so skipped to next page clicked on partner/joint and program stated a 21 dollar fee for each of us.

How do I know I won't be charged once i finish my joint returns

@dm5772 Make sure to activate your Online Retail product so you don't get charged at the end.

To activate your TurboTax Online version please visit this link. Select that " I have an account" ,log into your account and proceed to the second step by adding your 16 digit activation code to review and activate the TurboTax Online product.

entered 16 digit activation code, got the following message - Something's not right, try re-entering your code.

Probably when I first started I used the 16 digit activation code provided.

then as previously stated

How do I know I won't be charged once i finish my joint returns and try to file.

The I program purchased is for 8 returns, so Intuit will get t a portion of the Costco purchase price plus an additon$21 dollars per return???

If you purchased TurboTax Online Deluxe edition and already activated your activation code , you would get the message Something's not right since it would already be activated. Start by signing in here, using the same credentials you used to activate your software. You should then see how many return you have left to complete.

I am having the same issue, I made a new account this year. Completed and submitted my son's taxes free. Then I purchased from Costco the Deluxe with 8 filings. When I acitvated I used my existing account, which now shows I have 8 returns, but with the following warning. If I continue I start a new return for myself and my wife, I too get the message for $21 per return, total $42.

@pbola14 Could you please send a screenshot of the home page? Is it showing that you have 8 out of 8 returns available for the same account?

I have chosen returns for "Myself and spouse" I have chosen "Married" It does not allow me to joint file! It says I have to pay an additional $42.00, but does not tell me HOW? This is the first time I have used Turbotax, so far I am truly unimpressed. WHY WILL IT NOT ALLOW ME TO JOINT FILE WHEN I ALREADY PAID FOR THE PROGAM AT COSTCO????

Continuing does not fix this problem. At the end I tells you there is an error. "YOUR SPOUSE HAS NO INCOME". Well that's because the program will not allow it!!!!!!!!! I have tried this three times same result!

If you have bought TurboTax Online, please go to turbotax.ca/activate to use your code before you start your returns. You can see this TurboTax FAQ for step-by-step instructions: In TurboTax Online, how do I use a prepayment code? You can also try using the code in the coupon code section on the payment screen, if you didn't do it before you started.

If you are preparing your returns together and are using TurboTax Online 2024, you can switch between spouses by clicking on the names at the top of the page. That way you can enter info for both spouses.

If you have bought TurboTax Desktop, you will be asked for the licence code when you install the software. Please see this TurboTax FAQ for more information on the licence code: Where is my TurboTax licence code? You can download the current version of TurboTax Desktop edition here: Choose the current TurboTax Desktop edition you need (for Windows). You can download older versions of TurboTax Desktop edition here: Where can I download the Desktop edition of TurboTax?

Please note that the codes for TurboTax Online will not work with TurboTax Desktop & vice-versa.

I'm sorry, but this is a ridiculous answer. I purchased the boxed edition of the online version, and no where does it describe that there is an extra charge per return - not even in the fine print. The box says "Number of returns included - 12". This is incredibly deceptive marketing, and your company should be ashamed of itself.

Holy smokes, I can't believe the condescension. I came back to TurboTax out of curiosity, having moved away to BetterTax for the last couple years - I thought it might be worth paying Intuit for the confidence I was splitting deductions optimally. I had the same question about the cost for a spouse.

And you say "it CLEARLY says a spouse is an extra return", when on your link, ALL it says is that the deluxe plan includes "Finds the optimal split for donations, medical, employment expenses, and more". Not only was your response rude and arrogant, it was wrong.

I guess I should thank you, you at least answered my question about whether I should return to Turbotax.
