I've been alternating purchasing Turbo Tax Standard with my dad for the last 5-10 years. Buying the software for install.

One person buys the software, and shares the license key with the other, so we can both do our taxes. This year is the first year I've passed the information to him, and the key won't work for him. Are you no longer allowed to install the software on multiple computers? I do see how buying 8 returns linked to one computer makes any sense. The error is that it is already linked to another account. Is this new to 2024 Turbo tax?

TurboTax Desktop License code can be install on 3 different computers. The difference this year is, the code will be registered under one account. If a 2nd person needs to install the Desktop software, they will have to enter the account information of the owner of the account. We invite you to visit this article for more information.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

No, you can't transfer the current year TurboTax file from your computer to your online TurboTax account. If you use the online TurboTax, you can transfer in your prior year TurboTax file from your computer to prepare your current year return using the online TurboTax.

Absolutely will not purchase Turbo Tax again although having been using for 10 years plus. There is no way that a product offering 8 returns on one license should not be shareable under INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNTS. I do not care who I share a household with (trusted family member or not) I am entitled to my financial privacy if I choose to maintain that option. Secondly I DO NOT feel that there is any need to have a mandatory on line account to use the product.....and in the the event that there are no other viable tax programs to meet my needs I would choose to go back to doing a paper return. Might be more time consuming but at least I can be comfortable in knowing my personal information is still mine.

Why on earth did they change this??
It was great before and so easy to share TurboTax with my family members. We don't live together, and it worked great.

Now, we have to jump through hoops to share the software. I have to tell each family member my online account name and password. Then when they sign in using my credentials, i have to text them the code that is sent to my phone number. Basically now you force people to do all this coordination just to install the **bleep** software.

Who's bright idea was this??

I have a related question, and, being new to the forum, am not sure of even how to post a question. So, this being the closest to what's troubling me, I ask here ...

I've been using TurboTax for over 10 years - one of the founders of the original company is a personal friend. So, GREAT product. Every year, I use the STANDARD version, as I only do my and my wife's returns, and I need the carry-forwards for capital gains, medical deductions, and charitable contributions. After hours of trying to get some clarity, it appears that the "STANDARD" version this year is no longer standard. To get the same functionality, it appears I now have to buy the PREMIUM version.

I'm a pensioner. STANDARD always cost $35 plus/minus $5. Now Intuit wants $90 for PREMIUM, to do THE SAME THING that STANDARD did. Am I reading this correctly?

Would appreciate any insight.

I have been buying Turbo Tax Standard Desktop version and sharing with my Dad for the past 15 years.

The change this year ... 'forcing the license to be linked to a single owner account to install' is the most stupid and unreasonable decision Intuit have ever made.

1) There is no reason to install to 2 different computers if both computer are owned by the same person.

2) If the 2 computers are own by 2 different people, this forces 'the owner' to share his account details and hash out the MFA with the 2nd person.

If intuit does not fix this next year, I have no choice but to switch to a different tax S/W.

Will be trying out another tax software going forward, been using Turbo Tax for 2 decades now. Not quite sure why they insist on users making an account with them, or why they can't make it so a license code can be used on 2 accounts. I guess they want to make it as difficult for people to install it on 2 different PC as possible. Either choose to pay for another copy or lose your confidentiality I guess.

This is ableist policy which disproportionately harms Disabled people especially disabled people dependent on abusers which 50% of disabled people who have caregivers are. Forcing us to use the same account as our abusers takes all power out of our hands and forces us to disclose our fiances to abusers, making financial abuse easier. You are effectively helping abusers with this policy. Shame on you. You have a duty to accommodate, that includes allowing multiple accounts to use the same keys on different accounts. You did this intentionally to make more money and you are harming Disabled people, Women, BIPOC and 2SLGBTQIA+ in the process as we are disproportionately more likely to be poor and in abusive relationships with the person who paid for the key to your program. How do I know this? I am a member of all 4 communities listed, the person who provided the code to me has been abusing me my entire life and I finally got SOME financial freedom and now you are forcing me to ask him for a favour and he is going to ask for one in return and that favour will be ABUSING ME!!!!!!!!!!! And before you tell me to go to a shelter, etc. I CAN'T THEY AREN'T ACCESSIBLE TO PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES. So how dare you make life harder for consumers in an economy that is literally causing us to die to poverty. SHAME ON YOU.
