Turbo Tax 2025 Desktop support for Windows 10 ESU

Hello,

I would like the TurboTax staff in this community to pass this request on to the decision makers.
At the moment it appears the TurboTax 2025 won't support Windows 10. However, Microsoft is offering Extended Support (ESU) that customers can purchase so that Windows 10 will be supported by Microsoft for another year or more.

Please allow installing and supporting TurboTax 2025 on Windows 10 with ESU. It should be possible for the programmers to have the installer detect whether ESU is enabled or not and act accordingly.

Windows 10 LTSC support is until 2032 as per Microsoft -Yes, I use enterprise edition and have a laptop that was quite expensive, but it doesn't have TPM 2.0, thus even though I can design aircraft parts with my laptop and is supported by Microsoft until 2032 it can't run TurboTax (Doesn't make sense).

Windows 11 adoption rate is just over 50% at this point.

I've signed up for Windows 10 ESU and have no need to buy another laptop.

Please provide support for Windows 10 at least until Microsoft support for Windows 10 ACTUALLY ends.

Hello,

I would like to also add my vote for Turbo Tax to continue to support Windows 10 with ESU for another year.I do not feel comfortable with all the data breaches doing my Taxes online, and do not like the online interface. I prefer to have all of my returns safe on my computer to access locally. I do not want to upgrade to Windows 11 at current time when almost every update causes problems and the platform is not stable. Windows 10 is mature and stable. Hopefully in a year, Windows 11 will be stable enough to warrant upgrading to.

Finally it should be my decision to continue using Windows 10 with ESU, and not upgrade to Windows 11 and not a decision forced on me by Turbo Tax, which I have used for many years.

I am adding my voice/complaint as a Windows 10 Extended Service User. Due to the lack of response to my August request to Customer Support regarding ESU, I have decided this day to cancel my 15+year to Turbo Tax and look for a package that will work with Windows 10.

As to be expected with most corporate decisions these days, Intuit is extremely short-sighted in not acknowledging the current economy (to purchase new hardware) nor Microsoft's awareness of such a situation and it's offer to extend service updates. Shame on Intuit! Now I need to evaluate my need to continue with Quicken or look for an alternative package there as well.

I have been a TurboTax subscriber/user for decades (since 1980s, I think)

Your decision not to support Windows 10 is a deal-breaker for me and I cancelled my annual subscription/renewal.

I might try your online product but only after shopping other products first.

I'm quite disappointed. That is all.

Microsoft extended free security updates through October 13, 2026.

Stop fooling around and support Win 10 desktop in 2025, because many of us are not upgrading PCs this year for no other reason than to use your software rather than someone else's.

I agree, and want to add my comments here too. I have a Windows 11 machine, but my father (who I install Turbo Tax for on his Windows 10 machine) does not. The idea that a TPM 2.0 is some how a magic bullet for security is ridiculous. I worked for the NSA for over a decade, and there are so many different ways to get into a computer... that you are focusing on this one thing is totally beyond me. It would be like saying I can't drive my 2019 Ford Explorer to McDonalds because my key fob doesn't support the code randomization that the 2023 models do. I believe this has to do with pressure from Microsoft more than it does anything else.

Please fix this, or I'm taking my dad off Turbo Tax.

Completely ridiculous Intuit will not offer TurboTax to users that purchased Win 10 ESU support. Security is not an issue!

As a TT user for15 years, I will not be forced to buy a Windows 11 machine or use TT online, because of Intuit's BS rationale. Support TT on Win 10 ESU or I am done with TurboTax. This is the last straw!

I agree with all the above comments. If security is the issue, Windows 10 ESU continues to provide updates until October 2026. I'm leaving TurboTax if they don't recognize Windows 10 ESU users as being valuable customers!

I've been doing some research, since I'm done with Turbo Tax -- the HR Block software? Definitely nothing to do with Microsoft...they're the reason I have to make the change, since TT is too much of a wimp, being forced to choose by big bucks bukky over loyal customers

Everything I have received says Turbotax 2025 is supposed to run on Windows 10. I downloaded Turbotax Home and Business and for Corporations however I get an error message that says I must use Windows 11 or work online. What gives? How do I fix this problem. I really don't want to buy a new computer (the one I have will not run Windows 11) because of having to buy multiple other software upgrades and I don't trust online applications because they are dependent on your ISP and none of them are particularly reliable.

@user17623476194 Are you preparing Canadian returns? Because the new versions of TurboTax for 2025 won't be released in Canada until mid-December. TurboTax for 2024 should still work on Windows 10.

I hope that the programming team is embarrassed by forcing users of TurboTax to upgrade Windows to Windows 11. Sorry guys and gals, there isn't anything in TurboTax that requires any sophisticated programming, actually quite basic screens on the front end. I have used TurboTax since the days of DOS versions and except for the leap to Windows versions, the user interface hasn't changed much ( kudos for that ).

I use McAfee on all of my desktops and laptops and Android phones, so I really don't need Microsoft's attempt at security.

When TurboTax dropped support of Win7, I was able to run a VMWare Virtual PC running Windows 10, installed TurboTax on that VM and away I went just fine. Can't do that now with Windows 11.

Using the online version of TurboTax isn't an option, as I have mortgage payments, itemized deductions, etc. that according to Intuit, aren't available items in TurboTax .

If other companies follow this mantra to force one to purchase / install new hardware and software, then shame on them and Microsoft.

Here's hoping that companies will allow their programmers to write software that will adapt to it's environment at runtime or installation time. 🤞

@jpinwindsor With few exceptions, TurboTax Online has the same forms as TurboTax Desktop. You just don't have the option to enter your information directly onto the forms.

You can see what each version of TurboTax Online supports here: https://turbotax.intuit.ca/tax/software/online

And apparently there are ways of using Windows 11 on Virtual Machine without having TPM 2.0 on your computer, but we only support TurboTax here, not Windows installation.

I will add my support for the developers to continue to support Windows 10 ESU for the FY2025 tax season.

As a 20+ TT user I won't be upgrading to buggy WIN11 to run TT2025, but will instead be forced to move to your competitors offerings that do support WIN10 for desktop based Tax software. I also will not use online web based software for my taxes.

Very shortsighted move that leaves your loyal customers in the lurch, when in fact MS has extended the FREE ESU support until 2026. Please reconsider ASAP!!!
