Why am I being asked to upgrade to Premier when Standard has worked perfectly fine over the past years? It was much easier with CD installation, too.

Thank you for your response.

Yes, I do have some retirement investments, but I have previously just entered the information from those T-slips and they have always worked with the Standard version. In my opinion the Standard version was easy to use and filled all my tax needs.

If, as you say, certain claims/expenses were moved to “more appropriate editions”, does the 2024 Standard version retain all the functions of previous editions?

I hope that I can still manage with Standard. This is the first time I’ve tried it without the CD, and I must say that I find downloading is not as simple a process.

This seems extremely spurious. I am in the same situation as OP. The ONLY investments I have are indicated by my T5 form. The exact same investments I had last year. The difference is that this year, Turbo Tax told me I had to upgrade to premium (doubling the cost to me).

"If we detect that your tax situation requires expanded coverage depending on what your tax situation was last year, you will be prompted to upgrade." More accurately, "If we detect that we can charge you more for doing the same thing, we will."

Investment income
Foreign income

You will be asked to upgrade. Since certain claims/expenses were moved to the appropriate edition. TurboTax is better able to guide our customers through their filing journey and ensure that no credits or deductions are missed. If the claim/expense is not covered by the edition you are in, you will be automatically prompted to upgrade to the appropriate one.
