In TurboTax, the interview is the step-by-step wizard (the "EasyStep" path) that asks questions to complete the return, whereas in Forms Mode, you see the actual CRA documents.

Are you claiming the Caregiver Amount (Line 30450) or the Disability Amount Transfer (Line 31800)?

The Disability Transfer does not require the child to live with the parent. If they are trying to claim the Caregiver Amount for someone who lives independently, the CRA will likely disallow the claim anyway.

You must remove the override first. Then, they need to navigate to the Dependant Profile in the interview (easy step) and ensure the box for "Did this dependant live with you?" is checked accurately.

In 2025 I am unable to Netfile due to an Override Error in Schedule 5 due to my Dependent infirm child over 18's address declaration. I was able to Netfile in 2024 even though the field was overriden then. Please advise? Is this a Turbotax 2025 bug? I purchased Turbotax specifically to Netfile through the software. Why would things have changed from one year to the other?

You are restricted to Netfile due to the override.

Go to Forms Mode, find Schedule 5, right-click the field you overrode, and select "Remove Override" (or "Undo Override").

Instead of overriding the form directly, ensure the child's address is correctly entered in the "Dependant Profile" section of the interview.

Note: If the child lives with you, usually checking "Yes" to "Did [Child's Name] live with you all year?" automatically populates the required fields without an override.

If the address is an issue because the child lives in a different location (but is still dependent), make sure you use the specific boxes for "Address of Dependent" in the interview rather than typing text into the form.

If the CRA requires an address format that the software will not accept without an override, this is considered a "restricted return." In these rare cases, you must print and mail your return.

CRA Official Guide: Line 30400 – Amount for an eligible dependant

The claim has always been accepted in previous year's returns even though I had to override the address in them as well. It is only this year that I can't Netfile with this override. I am using Line 30450. All that the requirement says about residence is that they must be a resident of Canada. My son is receiving ODSP and lives in a basement rental apartment that he pays me rent for. It is part of my Detached house. Please advise?

In the past, Netfile protocols were a little less strict. The CRA's electronic gateway has gotten stricter for 2025. If the software sees an override (a manual change to a calculated field), it thinks the math might be wrong and makes a paper return so that it can be personally checked.

Because your son lives in a basement apartment of your detached house, he technically does live at your address. TurboTax is likely flagging the address because you are entering "Basement" or "Unit B," which makes the software think it’s a separate, independent residence.

Is your son's apartment a legally separate municipal address (e.g., 123-B Main St) or just a suite in your home (123 Main St)?

If it's the same municipal address, the "Live with you" box is the correct way to handle this.

That's why we've been telling you to get in touch with the Product Support team. They can help you fix this because they have tools we don't have here in Community, like screenshare. If the problem still isn't fixed, call them. They're open from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. EST (Monday through Friday).

It is a legally separate municipal address but part of my residence. I live at 294 Main and my basement apartment is 296. I very much appreciate TurboTaxAniqua's help and explanations with this Netfile Override error. I will try Product Support next and see what they recommend. Thanks so much for all your posts.
