Filing jointly, bigger refund when I do wife's tax first

I've tried it both ways, me first and then entered wife's info with a refund of $1300. Then I started over with wife's info first (larger income amount) and then mine with a refund of nearly $4K. Why is there such a difference? I'd like to file the forms with the biggest refund but not if I'm not entitled to it. What should I do?

You can take a look at the detailed tax summaries of both versions of the returns to see what is changing. There might be a credit that defaults to the first spouse that is making the difference.
