TurboTax Update - Vague Update Contents (i.e. Release Notes)

Like many TurboTax customers, I am waiting for more fixes to the T3 and Schedule 3 functionality, such as the Spousal percentage split of capital gains on lines 17599 and 17600 of Schedule 3 not splitting at all, and putting 100% of the amount on one spouse instead of splitting it.

Diligently, I'm opening TurboTax desktop every morning to check for updates. Today (Thursday, March 27), there was an update. However, the TurboTax Update window that pops up with the Update Contents (i.e. the Release Notes), only said vaguely, "Added Validations" and "Bug Fixes"?

Come on guys! Please give us more details on exactly what are the "Added Validations" and "Bug Fixes". It didn't fix my Schedule 3 issue. I don't know what it fixed. I have no idea because the release notes were so vague.

I have been making and supporting software for 30 years. If I put such vague descriptions into my product's release notes, my customers would be angry and I'd hear it from the bosses.

TurboTax, please do better with the release notes.

Try this workaround: enter 100% ownership at the top and then half of all values into boxes for each person. (I also only entered capital gains in box 53, using the same value as line 21, half the total, instead of dividing the time periods.).

Then the values for line 68140 on T936 were correct and agreed with Schedule 3 line 17600, and try to file.

@TurboTaxAniqua - I have several T3's that are shared between my wife and I. This workaround is far too tedious for that many T3's. Please give your customers at least a rough estimate of the ETA for this fix. I want a discount on next year's software.

I second @nerdboyjoe 's concerns here. I have the same issue.

I've been using TurboTax and it's predecessor (QuickTax) for too many years to count now and I feel that the quality has declined over the years. I just don't trust it anymore to "do the right thing". I'll be considering alternatives to TurboTax next year.

@wynden I second "considering alternatives to TurboTax next year". In fact, I'm already considering alternatives to TurboTax this year. I started kicking the tires on a competitor's product this afternoon. And, oh yeah, I forgot that TurboTax used to be called QuickTax. I'm getting old. I've been using the product since 1994. I can't remember what it was called back then. It sure has come along way since then...until this year.

I am also waiting for the updates. Yesterday, April 1st, I called the CRA and they stated that they have not received any communication from Turbotax in regards to them updating the software. They did say that their (CRA) forms have been corrected and only 10 of the 40 approved tax programs have completed the update. So we sit here patiently waiting......all while we will not receive our last carbon tax rebate in April considering the deadline to submit was April 3.

This does not work. I spoke with CRA yesterday, April 1st, and they said they have yet to hear from Turbotax in regards to updating the software. CRA forms have been corrected but they are putting the onus on you. Only 10 of the approved tax software programs have updated their forms and TurboTax is not one of them. That is directly from the CRA.

The T3 is now being split properly in TurboTax Desktop. Please try updating your software.

If the update doesn't work, please try uninstalling & reinstalling the program using the download from our website. It will not delete any of your saved returns.

It still popped up the same error Code: #95365. I checked my schedule 3 and T936 in TurboTax, it meets the 4 situations under #95365. It looks like the issue that line 68140 not picking up Box 21 in T3 Slips has been fixed for the forms (before, line 68140 was 0, now it picks up Box 21), but it still doesn't allow me to do Netfile.

1. You reported a capital gain from a T3 slip on line 17600 of Schedule 3. An entry is also required on line 68140 in Chart A of Form T936. Line 68140 cannot be less than line 17600. (my line 17600 < line 68140)

2. There is an entry on line 68140. You also have to report a capital gain (or loss) on line 17600. If the total of your capital gains (or losses) from all your T3 slips is zero, your software should generate an entry of "1" on line 17600. (my line 17600 and line 68140 are > 0)

3. There is an entry on line 68140. You must also have an entry on line 68150. If line 68140 minus line 12 in Chart A is zero, your software should generate an entry of "1" on line 68150. (my line 68140 = line 68150, and my line 68140 - line 12 > 0)

4. There is an entry on line 68150. An entry is also required on line 68140. Line 68140 cannot be less than line 68150. (my line 68140 = line 68150)
