After using online version, how can I save my return as "TurboTax 2018 file" format for future retrieval in case I use CD/download version in future.

You're not able to do this with Turbotax on-line for CRA. Those files are retained 'in the cloud' for possible use next year. In other words they are stored somewhere.

You can download a PDF version of your return.

Frankly I would continue to use TT on-line in future. It is more secure and always up to date, plus accessible from all your devices. I see no reason ever to go back to desk-top.

I note some vendors are only offering an on-line product this year. Eventually I would hope to see CRA go down this road. Given that you now have NetFile My Account, AutoFill and now Instant Notice of Assessment, alll of which I used this year, it would make sense to create an interactive filing system.

Thank you TonyC1. If I use the CD/download edition for 2019, would I be able to retrieve the 2018 return prepared by the online edition and stored in the cloud?
