For your new laptop and monitor, the correct CCA class would be Class 50. However, your router would be considered networking equipment and CCA Class 46 should be used.

Laptop, Monitor

The capital cost allowance (CCA) rate for computer and electronic office equipment and systems software for that equipment falls into one of three classes, depending on when it was purchased:

  • Purchased after March 18, 2007: Class 50 (55%)

Router

The CCA rate for networking equipment and systems software for that equipment falls into one of two classes, depending on when it was purchased:

  • Purchased after March 22, 2004: Class 46 (30%)

(Both apply the half-year rule.)

Class 50 includes general-purpose electronic data processing equipment and systems software for that equipment, including ancillary data processing equipment. Hence, laptops and monitors fall under Class 50.

However, as the router is data network infrastructure equipment and systems software for that equipment, it must be included in Class 46.
