I had moving expenses in 2018, however I didn't have enough tax taken off in 2018 to cover the moving expenses. Can the taxes I paid in 2019 cover the amount?

Yes, if:

  1. You have started the claim in the year you had the expenses (2018) even if you didn't use the amount. You need to claim them in 2018 and carry them forward to a future year.
  2. If you have claimed any small portion of the moving expenses against your income in 2018, you have to claim the remaining amount against the income from the same employment you had in 2018.
  3. You need to deduct from the expenses any reimbursement you have received from your employer.
