I had to buy expensive safety clothing for work, fire retardant pants, coat and boots. Can I claim these?

CRA is quite clear that you cannot deduct the cost of special clothing you wear or have to wear for your work.  Please see http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/tpcs/ncm-tx/rtrn/cmpltng/ddctns/lns206-236/229/slry/sppls-eng.htm...  However, you are entitled to the Canada employment amount of up to $1,127 to help offset some of the expenses you may have incurred as an employee.  TurboTax will automatically calculate and claim this amount based on the employment income you are reporting

You can deduct certain expenses (including any GST/HST) you paid to earn employment income. You can do this only if your employment contract required you to pay the expenses and you did not receive an allowance for them, or the allowance you received is included in your income.
