The CRA actually does not allow self-employed individuals to use the "Simplified Method" (the per-km flat rate) for business vehicle expenses.

That simplified rate ($0.70/km for 2024/2025) is reserved specifically for employees (Form T777) or for specific situations like moving expenses or medical travel. As a small business owner (Form T2125), you are required to use the Detailed Method. This is why you can’t find a "simplified" checkbox in TurboTax.

How do I claim vehicle expenses if I'm self-employed?
