If I order self-employed for my wife, do I order a basic for myself which is cheaper or do I have to link them on one program?

If you and your wife are preparing you returns separately, you can each use whichever version of TurboTax that you’d like. In that case, you’ll both have to manually enter information about each other. If you plan on preparing your returns together, then you’ll both need to use the same version of the program.

If you use TurboTax Self-Employed Online, you’ll get all the extra guidance that’s available in that version, but if you prepare your returns together, you’ll be charged the same price for both returns.

If you use TurboTax Basic CD/Download, then it comes with 4 returns, so you two can do you returns either together or separately, for the same price. But Basic has a very minimal EasyStep Interview, and you’ll be doing most of your return using CRA style forms. This might make it harder for your wife to enter her self-employment income and expenses.
