As full time student, move from home at the beginning of semester and return to home end of semester, can both expenses claim as moving expenses?

Here are the guidelines re: claim for moving as a full-time student

You can claim eligible moving expenses if you moved to be a student in full-time attendance in a post-secondary program at a university, college or other educational institution. However, you can only deduct these expenses from the parts of your scholarships, fellowships, bursaries, certain prizes, and research grants that are required to be included in your income.

You will not be eligible to claim moving expenses to return home at the end of the semester.

My daughter received a $500 scholarship from La foundation du College Boreal.  Does this make her eligible to claim moving expenses on her last year of school?

you have to be careful with student moving expenses. The conditions are:

  • To attend a full-time program
  • Change of a residency for the period claimed. A student who leaves personal belongings at their parents' house or their own house and move temporarily for a semester or two to a new location then comes back to the old location cannot claim moving expenses.
  • A source of income in the new location. The scholarship for a full-time student is now fully exempted, so you can't claim the moving expenses against the scholarship. They need some source of income.
