What parts of house make up square footage

Work from a home office; my house is 1000 square feet main floor and my office is in the basement which is partially finished; does the unfinished parts of the basement count towards the total square footage or just the finished parts like the bathroom and office part

Total square footage of the home would include the unfinished portion as well.
