Before applying my tuition credits I already have a refund. Is there a way of forcing them to carry forward, as they are not required to reduce my tax owing?

I entered the amounts from my Notice of Assessment, and have a large refund as a result. Setting them to zero, I still have a refund (though smaller). I don't want to use any of the credits this year if I don't have to reduce my tax liability. If the amounts that are not needed are automatically not used, why is there such a difference?

CRA Requires you to use the credits at the first opportunity. In your case, there was still a little tax payable and your tuition was used to reduce it to zero. Unfortunately, we can not change this to carry over more for next year.
