Fees for student residence are not eligible tuition fees but, if you are applying for a provincial benefit such as the Ontario Trillium Benefit, the residence fees can be used.

If you live in Ontario, you can claim the student residence portion of the “Ontario Trillium Benefit”.

Here are the steps using TurboTax Online:

  1. Select “Provincial Tax Credit Profile” under the “Provincial” tab.
  2. Click “Continue”, and answer “Yes” to the question “Did any of these apply to you and you want to apply for the 2022 OEPTC?”.
  3. Click “Continue” and enter the required information on the “Payments Related to your Principal Residence” page.
  4. Click “Continue” and say “Yes” to the question “Did you live in a designated university, college, or private school residence during 2021?”.
  5. Click “Continue” to save your information.
