Is money earned inside a rrsp a contribution or income

No, any money earned inside an RRSP is neither a contribution or an income.

RRSPs are only reported on your tax return when:

  1. You purchase the RRSP. This is reported on an RRSP Contribution slip and you receive a deduction on Line 20800 in the year the contribution is made.
  2. When you make a "withdrawal" from that RRSP. This is reported on a T4RSP slip and is reported as income on Line 12900.
  3. When you participate in the Home Buyers Plan (HBP) or Lifelong Learning Plan (LLP). You will be issued a T4RSP when a withdrawal is made, it is reported, however, no income or deduction is made on your tax return.
