Line 303 and Tuition Transfer to Parent

My spouse was in school in 2017 and has tuition fees to claim and would like to transfer them to her father.

We were married on Sept 30, 2017.

Based on her income, we are eligible to claim the "Spouse or common-law partner amount" (Line 303).

TurboTax help indicates the following:

If your spouse or common-law partner is using you for a deduction on line 303 (spouse or common-law partner amount) or claiming other transfers from you (such as the disability amount), then a parent or grandparent can't claim your tuition and education transfer.

Question:

Am I obligated to claim Line 303 Spouse or common-law partner amount?

Or can I leave this unclaimed so we can transfer the tuition to her father?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, you are obligated to claim if you need the credit.

No, because CRA won't allow you to override the amount.
