Did the Notice Of Assessment not say why you must pay the amount? This FAQ talks about why your Notice Of Assessment different from what TurboTax calculated, and how to figure out what happened: https://turbotax.community.intuit.ca/community/after-you-file-questions/help/why-is-the-refund-or-ba...

You can also contact our phone support to help you with this issue. You can get the correct number by using this form: https://support.turbotax.intuit.ca/contact/

If you have TurboTax Live Assist & Review, here is how to talk to a Tax Expert: https://turbotax.community.intuit.ca/community/navigating-turbotax/help/i-m-using-turbotax-live-assi...

I thought the problem was splitting the income but that was not the case.

there are 2 different schedule 2 forms the federal and the provincial. These were supposed to be marked 0 instead of the full amount allotted  for the deduction. They said I was not eligible for either of these deductions.  So I had to pay the  difference of 1193.00. A portion of this was interest. The gentleman at the Canadian Revenue Agency said it was nothing I personally did wrong. The deductions are part of an algorithm set up in your system and depending on how I answer the questions asked.  In other words the full amount was given to me  (automatically).  This was very frustrating to me.  I thought everything was fine with my return but wasn’t. Thank you for your time.

You are correct to say TurboTax calculates automatically.

TurboTax does claim amounts by how you answer the questions in TurboTax software. Therefore if you have entered amounts and clicked on yes, where it should have been a no-  Then TurboTax will calculate by answers given.

For example - in your case- you thought you could split his US pension and CRA says no you weren't entitled. You thought you were so while completing your income tax return you would have put "YES" I want to split my husband's pension. This is where the error occurred.

Please read the following on how you can split pension income

If you feel that you did complete your income tax return correctly and that it was TurboTax software that made a mistake - please reach out to our support team for help- https://support.turbotax.intuit.ca/contact/
