Son has transferred tuition paid expense to us as parents; does not need the $5,000 prov ded, yet this now shows up on my return; how do I remove so he can carry fwd?

On the parent’s return:

1. At the top of your screen, select Deductions > Claims for Dependants > Tuition Amount Transfer.

2. On the “Your children and other dependants” step, select Enter Credit Info for the dependant who transferred the tuition to you.

3. On the Claim Dependant Credits step, leave “Transfer my child’s tuition and education amounts” selected, and click the “Continue” button.

4. On the Tuition Transfer Amount step, make sure all the boxes are set to 0.00 (Zero).

5. Click on the “Tuition Transfer” button.

6. On the Tuition Transfer Amount step, make sure all the boxes are set to 0.00 (Zero), and click the “Continue” button to save.

7. Go back to Deductions > Claims for Dependants > Tuition Amount Transfer.

8. On the Claim Dependant Credits step, uncheck “Transfer my child’s tuition and education amounts”, and click the “Continue” button to save.

On the dependant’s return:

1. At the top of your screen, select Deductions > Students > Tuition Transfer.

2. On the Transfer Tuition and Education (Federal) step, make sure all the boxes are set to 0.00 (Zero), and click the “Continue” button to save.

3. On the Transfer Tuition and Education (Provincial) step, make sure all the boxes are set to 0.00 (Zero), and click the “Continue” button to save.

4. Go back to Deductions > Students > Tuition Transfer.

5. On the Your Student Profile for 2017 step, uncheck “Transfer of tuition and education to a spouse, parent or grandparent”, and click the “Continue” button to save.

6. Now that the tuition transfer has been deleted, the dependant’s unused tuition will automatically carry forward.
