tuition amount to parent shows as zero but should have 1,414.57 to transfer, as this is available for carry forward to 2026

Is the zero amount showing on the student's return or the parent's return? Is this tuition from 2025 or is it carried forward from a previous year? Are you using TurboTax Desktop or TurboTax Do It Yourself (Online)?

Using TT Online.  Zero amount was on parent's return. 
Figured out the answer elsewhere. 

It is because the amount eligible to transfer child-to-parent is the child's unused tuition (1,414.57 in this case)  minus the amount the child used to reduce their net income to zero. 
I was unaware of the minus calculation, and in this case the child had used more than 1414.57 to have a zero net income.

Result is zero tuition transfer to parent, but child has 1414.57 for future year deductions for themselves (only).
