Where can we put non-tuition continuing education course deductions, courses that we need to take to maintain certification within different health care disciplines?

Yes. You can put professional development course costs under Professional Dues when you enter your income and expenses information.

To enter your union, professional, and other dues:

  1. In the upper-right corner of your screen, select Find*.
  2. In the Find window, type Union and select Go.
  3. Enter your amounts and select Continue.

* If you don’t see the Find button, you may not have completed the Setting Up section on your return. Continue through the Setting Up section until the Find button appears.

you should see the deduction on Line 21200. It might not have an implication on your refund because you might have a low income from the start.

to check Line 21400:

if you are using an online product: Go to view detailed tax summary from the drop-down menu under the refund amount

if you are using a desktop product: Switch to Forms view from the top blue bar, and choose T1-General form

I hope this was helpful
