If you have a letter from your medical practitioner stating that your child needs to attend a private school, you can claim the fees as a medical expense on your income tax return.

My 12 year old grandson has mental health issues and I pay his tuition for a private school. he does not qualify for the Disability tax credit and he is not a dependent. Can i claim any tuition expenses?

You are only able to claim tuition for a private school if a medical practitioner gives you a letter stating that the child needs to attend a private school. Then you could claim the tuition as a medical expense on your income tax return.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

I spoke to aCRA agent not familiar with this question and he consulted for a minute or two then told me I couldn't deduct these . Not sure what to think now
