RSP transfer - Canada

My wife transferred mutual funds in kind from one RSP to another. The bank converted her sending RSP to a RIF and then did the transfer. This created a T4RIF.  They also issued a RSP receipt in the same amount as the T4RIF.  How do we enter the RSP receipt so that it cancels the T4RIF and does not create an income effect. My wife did not receive any income from the first RSP. As well Turbo Tax is not letting us enter the full amount of the RSP receipt as there is not enough available contribution room left. As it stands there is an undesirable income effect from the T4RIF and a net result of taxes owing.

RSP transfer - Canada

Two things must be done in TurboTax when transferring private RRSP to another RRSP Firstly

  • enter the income amount in the slip you received from (T4, T4A, T4RSP, or T4RIF) and second
  • enter the transferred amount as an RRSP contribution.
