You can make changes to a filed tax return by filing an adjustment. The CRA requires that you wait until you’ve received your Notice of Assessment (NOA) before filing an adjustment. Often, the CRA will catch the mismatch and automatically adjust your return for you.
How you file your adjustment depends on how your original tax return was filed, and whether it was a federal or Québec return. Instructions on filing adjustments for both scenarios are provided here:
TurboTax Online
Filing adjustments to a federal tax return
If you filed your original return using NETFILE:
Sign in to your TurboTax Online account for the tax year you want to prepare an adjustment for.
In Return Manager, select ReFILE beside the filed tax return you want to adjust.
If you printed and mailed your original return, or are in a situation excluded from ReFILE, see the CRA’s How to change a return page.
Note: This service is no longer available for 2018 or prior year tax returns.
Filing adjustments to a Québec return
Unfortunately, we do not support in-product amendments for your federal or Revenue Quebec return within TurboTax Online. You can:
FEDERAL return: You can use ‘Change My Return’ in CRA My Account to change your T1 return or print the T1-ADJ form from the CRA website, complete it manually and mail it to the CRA together with your contribution slips justifying your request.
QUEBEC return: You can use Revenu Quebec My Account to change your TP1 return or you can print the TP-1.R-V form from the RQ website, complete it manually, and mail it to RQ together with your contribution slips justifying your request.
