The 5-digit prior-year PIN is not needed this year to verify the ID for efiling your 2021 return.   Many people don't have their 5-digit Self-Select PINs from last year.  You can verify using the 2020 AGI in the AGI field instead.

That being said, there is another screen that will ask for a 5-digit PIN to be used to "sign" the return.  It's on a screen with today's date and your birth date.  On that screen you can enter any 5 digits of your choosing.  That will become your new Self-Select PIN that can be used again next year, if you save it.

If the tax return was rejected you should have printed and mailed those returns.

You can enter any 5 digit number on the federal tax return for the electronic signature filing.  However, you Must enter the correct prior year AGI or the tax return will be rejected by the IRS.

For the 2021 tax return, if you have entered the correct 2020 AGI and the return is still rejected, there is a good possibility that the IRS does not have your 2020 AGI in their database.  In this case you would enter o 0 (zero) for the 2020 AGI and e-file the 2021 tax return again.

The 2020 AGI is on the 2020 Federal tax return Form 1040 Line 11.

Are you referring to the 5-digit self select PIN?  If so, this is your signature ID that is used to verify your identity.  We do not store this PIN. If you can't remember your signature ID, you can use the adjusted gross income (AGI) from last year's tax return as verification.  The following Help Article can assist if you need help finding your AGI:  How do I find last year's AGI? - Intuit

@Brandinsmith1900

  You have to access your own account and/or  print it for yourself using exactly the same account and user ID that you used when you prepared the return.

Start a 2022 return online and enter some personal information  so that the menu on the left opens up and lets you access your past year returns.

Many people have multiple TT accounts and forget how to access them.  Log out of the account you are in now.

SO?  Why is there a screen which asks for your PIN number after you have already put in your AGI?

The PIN is considered a digit signature.  It is to add an extra layer of security to your returns.  If you need further assistance, please reach out here in the thread.
