Anyone having problems with 2023 version not saving your info?

I downloaded  Turbo tax standard  version last  month

I  just entered  my medical   slips in &  when I tried  to exit TT  it came up with an error   to check disk space

I have plenty of disk space

I uninstalled TT  twice & reinstalled it    when starting up TT  I checked the box to get the updates

entered some info same result   error message & info disappeared

3 rd time  I did not check the updates box ..entered some T slips  & no problem

I am afraid to  do anymore  work with TT   it is  a waste of time

Anyone having the same problem ?

Solution  or hope they  fix the updates

I do not think it is just me

Thanks

Please try saving the return to a different location, such as your desktop.

You can also try running the program as an Administrator. To do this, right click the TurboTax icon and select "Run as Administrator"

So I tried running as administrator

info was  still there that I had input   then closed TT

restarted & accepted the upgrades

When trying to close  TT get  error code TT401   but at least the input in the forms was still there   for now

Will not be putting anymore info in  for the time being & hope the error code gets fixed

We have been told Windows Defender can interfere with TurboTax being able to access folders. This is why the TT401 error occurs. It requires changing permissions in Windows Defender to allow TurboTax to save files.

There are continuous updates being done before tax season opens. Thank you for updating us.

Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

Thanks

Finally found the  app  to add to window defender  so fingers crossed  that does the trick

I am semi computer literate  but this is a PITA

How to fix the problem?

@bmoody Please try saving the return to a different location, such as your desktop.

You can also try running the program as an Administrator. To do this, right click the TurboTax icon and select "Run as Administrator".

Also make sure that you don't have any anti-virus or firewall software blocking TurboTax from saving.

So far  I signed in as administrator

Then in Windows defender gave TT permission to save files

So far the info I inputted in the  forms is still there  & no error codes

I have not had  time to waste putting all my  medical back in to the worksheet  in TT

I am leery of doing it in case everything gets wiped out

AGAIN

Will report back  when I get time to waste  doing my  tax forms

my issue was a 1603 fatal error when updating TT .     i ran TT as Admin and it worked fine (or else they fixed the bug today!)

Go to Windows SETTINGS

In FIND A SETTING box type CONTROLLED FOLDER ACCESS

Select it.

Turn it off.

I hate Win 10. Probably Win 11 too but we'll never know as I'm switching to Linux....😎

I have a similar problem. I keyed in a long list of medical expenses but Turbo Tax messed them up. Some are missing and they are not in chronological order which is how I entered them. The totals are wrong. I am reluctant to re-enter them in case they get messed up again. I need a fix for this!!!

Are you saying you can't save your file or that it won't save it the way you input the data.

@caren1 Are you using TurboTax CD/Download or TurboTax Online?

Did you start the TT under "administrator"  ?

I have not had any issues  so far since I made the  changes noted above

I am using the dowmloaded Standard version of TT

I am furious with TurboTax.  I downloaded it and ran it.  Got completely finished with the return after downloading lots of data from brokerages, banks, etc. and TT would not save the data!  No error code.  Just said check the file and try again.

So I came here and saw where I need to run it as Administrator!  Why did TT not tell me this?  Huh?  So I ran it as administrator, but this time I was smart: I tried saving all the data shortly after starting the return.  And the SAVE function worked!  No error codes!  Yippee!   Alas, I was exuberant way too soon.  After saving, I went through the re-downloading of the bank and brokerage data and finished up the return, so I tried to SAVE it.  SAME ERROR again.  I think that when I downloaded the data from the various brokerages and banks, it “lost” my administrator privileges somewhere in the swapping out.

So I redid the return a third time.  This time, I saved the return on a thumbdrive, my only option since TT bellyached about my harddrive.  Then moved the file to my harddrive manually as a workaround.  It is an ugly solution but works for me.

Well, I think it is a new Windows Defender Function and Update that prevents TuroboTax from saving files.

You will need administrator access. You will go into Windows Security (search via Cortana Search bar), then go to "virus and that protection settings", then go to "manage controlled folder access", then select "allow an app through Controlled folder access", and (finally) "add an allowed app".

If you already tried use TT to save, select the "recently blocked apps" and select the Turbotax.exe , else find your installed application and select the executable file.

I was able to save a file afterwards.

For security purposes, you may want to remove approval once you are done filing. A hacker may take advantage of this allowance in the future.

I am beyond frustration right now.  I have tried for two days to get TT to save the information downloaded from CRA and it encounters a problem and shuts down every time.  I do not believe it is a Windows Defender problem, as I completed a tax return for my husband and the information downloaded and saved without problems.  I also completed a tax return for myself and the information downloaded and saved without problems.  I am trying to prepare a tax return for my mother.  I can see it connect to CRA and download, but TT does not appear to be able to save it.  I have logged off and logged in.  I have turned my computer off and re started and logged in.  I tried creating a new tax return for her.  Still encountering the problem with saving the info from CRA.  Sure would be nice to resolve this issue.
