Hello Turbotax Community. My family and I are long time users of Turbo Tax and historically have used the download software to prepare and submit our tax forms. This year, because I’ve had some changes, I decided to purchase the Assist and Review process, mainly to do a final review of my taxes before submission to the CRA.
After I purchased it, I was able to utilize the available Assist and Review functions while doing a ‘joint’ return for the wife and myself. After initially having some issues with the CRA download, I decided to start over, which fixed the download issue but when I got the the point of ‘Review’ prior to submission, the software wanted me to pay again! After several, long calls to turbotax, I am told that the reason I needed to pay again is because I am doing a joint return? However, when I first purchased it while doing a joint return, it worked OK. My question is, has anyone else ran into this before and have you had to pay twice for doing a joint return? Appreciate any feedback as dealing with product specialists has been a long and fruitless venture. Thanks.
Your payment for Assist & Review is attached to your return. So if you start a new return (joint or not), then add Assist and Review again, you will be asked to pay again.
Thank you Susan. That’s probably the best answer I’ve had after talking to 5 different TurboTax support people. I do wonder though, because I had trouble with the initial return, why can’t they transfer the paid for Assist & Review to the new return? I didn’t use it on the initial return, I saved the 2nd return as the same file name, so the file name and my name were the same as when I purchased the Review? I think it’s only fair that I can use it on my re-saved return. Is it possible to still do this.
The "flag" that says you have paid for assist and review is embedded into the file. If you overwrite the file with a new return file, then the code with flag is overwritten.
It's the same with TurboTax Online, except there you don't have to pay until you file.
