Can I claim training or tuition as I was laid off

I was laid off in 2020. Part of my exit package included $6,000 in training. This was added to my income and I am taxed

You can only claim tuition that was not paid for by your employer. So if your employer gave you $6000 to pay for school, and the tuition amount on your t2202 is $7000, then you can only claim the $1000 that you paid yourself.
